NYC Medical Forum

Mission Statement

We are a group of high school students who aim to provide liberal arts-based high schools and disadvantaged schools with more medical-related opportunities.

Since many schools in NYC are more humanities-based, most clubs in many schools are surrounded by the ideas of literature and liberal arts, so we decided to help our peers and the youth of NYC get more understanding and awareness of the medical field.

We encourage everyone to join to share their excitement and enthusiasm for the future of this and related fields. We are a group of pre-medical clubs across the city, with the goal of holding a wide conference with members of the medical profession in the spring.

what’s so special about this forum?

due to the covid-19 pandemic, many in-person conferences have been canceled. we are trying to make the best out of the pandemic. this conference would encourage students from schools where they do not have resources related to medicine to come and then leave with a greater understanding of the medical field.

we are also having student speakers. as a team of high school students, the voices of the youth play an important role in our current world. we will listen to the stories regarding the medical field that impacts them the most. this forum will be a safe place for people to share their stories.

Meet The Team!

aniqa nayim: hello, i am the vice president of the bard manhattan pre medical club. adnan and i started the forum because we wanted to bring more medical-related opportunities to our peers and the underprivileged youth of nyc. i am extremely passionate about medicine and health issues! i am one of the liaisons working under our team. i am also one of the student communications directors and a member of the financial department.

adnan bhuyian: hey everyone! my name is adnan and i am the vice president of the tbls (brooklyn latin) medical club. aniqa and i started the forum to help give free opportunities to students that don’t really have access to them or to give them the opportunity to explore the medical field. i’m very passionate about medicine and health of all kinds, especially now since we’re in a pandemic. i am also one of the liaisons working under our team.

fatim majumder: hi! my name’s fatim majumder, and i’m a junior at brooklyn technical high school. I also am president/founder of Youth Neuroscience Society. i’m a student communications director of a diversity and equity-focused initiative, the new york city medical forum. being a part of the LIU Advanced Health Professions major and going to the nation’s largest specialized public high school for STEM education has allowed me to have many opportunities to learn about healthcare and medicine, ones that many of my peers in disadvantaged schools do not have. It is already undeniable that our youth can never have access to the same opportunities while capitalism prevails. my role in this team has allowed me to share my interest in medicine with my peers while helping others, specifically those from disadvantaged schools, gain more exposure and a better understanding of the medical field.

raneen hoq: hi! my name is raneen hoq, i’m a junior at bard high school early college manhattan and am a graphics manager for the forum. attending a school that is liberal arts and humanities-oriented makes it much more difficult to find opportunities that provide exposure to the stem field, as stem is my strong suit. considering the current situation the world is in, it’s hard to take advantage of outside resources. therefore, joining the forum means i can help ensure that students like myself can connect and take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the field of medical care.

edge harry: hello, i'm one of the vice presidents at the brooklyn latin school’s medical club. i am one of the communications managers and marketers for the forum. i help bring awareness to our project by creating and sharing information about our group and our goals. i initially joined this group and my school’s own medical club because like my peers, believe that students should have more exposure to careers(particularly in the medical fields) they are interested in. i saw this as an opportunity to bring this exposure to other students within the city, especially those who may not even know what they want to do later in life.

christina chan: hey guys! my name is christina chan and i am the founder and president of the brooklyn latin medical club. i wanted to be a part of this organization because i know there are other students like myself who are very passionate about medicine and healthcare and would benefit from taking part in participating in this forum by learning more about the different healthcare professions. i am also one of the marketers in charge of managing social media and promoting the club to students all over nyc.*

edona cosovic: i joined this medical forum to help kids in nyc to find their way into the medical field amid the pandemic. many children today cannot intern nor find the medical opportunities they would be finding if everything were in-person. this forum would give them the opportunity to network with students and doctors alike, furthering their passions to help the world.

deven rozario: hi! My name is Deven, and I’m the President of the V-STEM club (Volunteering for STEM) at Brooklyn Tech and am interested in Business and Medicine. I am a student communication director and joined the forum because I wanted to help New York City high school students gain exposure to unique opportunities. Many of the high schools in New York City are underprivileged and humanities-based, limiting access to opportunities dealing with the medical field, which is even harder now because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This medical forum would allow students to learn more about the medical field and different health professions. This has allowed me to engage with like-minded people, achieve the same goals, and make an impact on a larger community.

mahjabin choudhury: i joined the social media position because i have prior experience with managing social media accounts. i knew i would enjoy working with the graphics team and helping find guest speakers. i enjoyed creating the first post about what this forum is about and i look forward to closely working with the team to prepare for this event. i already told my school club about it and they are excited to meet the guest speakers. the premed forum team reached out and i knew i would enjoy this experience with other students.

chloe terestchenko: hi! my name is chloe terestchenko and i’m one of the communication directors in co-organizing the forum! i’ve always been interested in science, especially physics, so i joined the pre-medical club at stuyvesant high school my freshman year. after four years, i’ve become the co-president and it’s made me want to bring these opportunities to other high school students as well.

karen lei: my name is karen lei, a senior at the high school for math, science, and engineering. i’m a communication director of the nyc medical forum. i joined the team to help allow more nyc students to learn more about the medical field. being a part of a biomedical program and going to a stem-based high school has allowed me to have many opportunities to learn about healthcare and medicine, ones that many of my peers in humanities-based schools and disadvantaged schools might not have. being a part of this team has allowed me to share my interest in medicine with peers to help others to have a better understanding of the medical field.
